IRL First Name: Ken
Age: 22
Hobbies:
As far as games, I only really play Darkfall and some SC2 every now and then. I'm an engineering student so most of my time is spent either on school work or hanging out with friends. I enjoy playing chess and poker as well.
Country/Timezone: Pacific
Sister(s): None?
Are you able to handle shit talking: Yea, it’s part of the fun.
The virtual you (!)
Usual In-game/Forum Alias: John Galt in game and on forms for DFUW.
Sypher is my normal handle.
What do you look for in a video game in order for you to play it? List at least one game which stands out for you and explain why it is superior to the others you have played:
Obviously this is Darkfall. I came from playing UO in the early days, and after it died out never played another game because they all followed the same care-bear lack of PvP style to them.
First and foremost I look at the PvP aspect of the game, and then second for a role that suits my play style. DF1 was a perfect example of my ideal game from a theory point of view; however, it had some issues.
Describe the greatest gaming moment in your life and why it stands out among others (Regarding multi player PC games):
There were a lot of good times in DF1, many epic sieges and great group fights. However, I think the most enjoyable time that I could remember in DF was at the Sea’s towers capturing a ship. It stands out the most because it was in my earlier days of DF before I was maxed out , somewhat of the “new guy” who just joined.
Fight ended with me being the last one standing, and driving the ship home solo. Everyone yelling if I lost the ship they’d murder my mother.
Explain briefly your least favorite kind of person to play with (characteristics, personality):
Least favorite is defiantly the very egotistic, loud mediocre player, who thinks he’s good because he happens to play with some good players. Also people who can’t take orders and just talk too much in vent. Don’t care for hardcore role players much either.
How do you typically handle working with people like the one mentioned above?:
I normally just don’t play with them, I’d rather find better company. It’s normally not a problem because most people also don’t get along with these kinds of people and they don’t last in any quality guild.
Describe an experience where you had to act as a leader (either planned or improvised):
End of DF1, after not playing for a while I logged in and went to help a kind of “newer” guild with a siege. It was a mess, I ended up taking command and successfully defended the city.
What sort of things define a good leader to you?:
Someone who can keep things under control and fulfill all their obligations. A leader needs to know when to press something and when to leave it alone. Communication is key. I prefer to think of a lot of leadership (in gaming) as situational and not a one person job.
Darkfall related (!)
What sort of role will you prefer in Unholy Wars?:
Elementalist. Kind of sucks right now as they seem to suck in UW so far; however, it is my preferred play style.
How much time will you be able to play Unholy Wars each day:
Few hours a day, a lot on weekends. I’ll be able to make most sieges and group events. Play time won’t be an issue.
Did you play the original Darkfall? If so, for how long?:
Yes, I played from beta to end of df1. However, I took some long breaks along the way.
If you answered 'YES' above, use this section to talk about what you liked/disliked about Darkfall and any interesting experiences you had in it:
I loved the game and probably don’t have to dive into much of why I liked it: we all probably share this. The PVP was adrenalin rushing epicness. However, like all games it had its highs and lows.
I really didn’t like the grind and lack of diversity of the game. After a while, it seemed repetitive as well. Population got low at times and such.
What is going to be your main gaming motivation while playing Unholy Wars?:
Hopefully UW delivers and the trill of the game will be motivation enough. However, there are a lot of other factors like a good clan to play with. We will see as things go on.
Clan related (!)
Why did you apply to Covert Operations?:
Ran into you guys often enough in DF1 to know you play well enough; however, the real reason I’m applying first to CO for UW might sound kind of strange.
I was in a guild called Covert Operations in UO. Also, I’m in the military and if I was going to create a guild, I’d name it Covert Operations.
How will you be an asset to Covert Operations?:
I’m a strong PvP’er in both small scale and large scale combat. I have a lot of experience with darkfall and know the mechanics well.
Do you have any friends in the clan? If so, list who they are and give a brief history with them.
No, I don’t believe so.
Previous clan(s) & the reason why you left:
Dominon – Start of Darkfall, ran with them until I stop playing due to the grind.
NME – Old days of NME when they were allied to Dominion, left after I quit DF the second time due to school.
Incognito – Joined when I came back to Darkfall after not playing for a long time. All the politics changed and I lost contact with all my old buddies. Left for vamp as Incog was mostly new players.
Vamp – Didn’t play too much with them as my computer crashed shortly after joining, taking me off DF for a while once again.
LCS- Joined a friend’s guild after coming back to DF for the 3rd time. This clan merged into LCS, which I left after they allied with Gentlemen.
TainT – Played with TainT until they Disbanded, population was dwindling with the news of DFUW launch, so I left DF1 for good.
How involved were you in your previous clans? (Leadership positions, politics, etc):
I never held any leadership roles by choice. I don’t mind helping out with guild things, however I’ve never wanted to be in a leadership role. I want to mostly play the game for the content and have fun fighting on the field.
