What do you look for in a video game in order for you to play it? List at least one game which stands out for you and explain why it is superior to the others you have played:
For single player games, it's all about the story/world/atmosphere. For multi-player games, it's the PvP and the community that grows from it. I aim to find a group of people to hang out with, whether it's a casual expedition or organized raids.
Darkfall, hands down, stands out as the best PvP game I've ever played. The near mandatory requirement for grouping with others encourages a tight knit community more than any other experience I've had. No other game has filled me with such excitement, dread, and relief than Darkfall did.
The only other game that came close was Planetside 2. In its early days before the Lattice Links were implemented, I would roam with my Outfit into enemy territory to harass and be a thorn in their side. Sadly, though, it's now a zerg-fest which does not encourage any kind of "small" group play.
Describe the greatest gaming moment in your life and why it stands out among others (Regarding multi player PC games):
At a young age, Whisper, giantpuppets and I, created this game called “Giggles”. Sleep deprived and delirious, we would play Halo on Derelict with no shields and only pistols. I don’t know why it was so much fun but we’ve spent many hours one shotting each other late at night.
I’d have to say my fondest memories come from growing up playing Starcraft on my dad’s custom made Seria maps. Whisper and I spent many nights playing melee against hard computers and pulling off some amazing moves.
Explain briefly your least favorite kind of person to play with (characteristics, personality):
It would probably be a person so set in their ways as the world changes around them that they become a hinderance to those around them.
How do you typically handle working with people like the one mentioned above?:
I encourage them to try minor new things or suggest alternatives that they might understand as a benefit. But in the end, it’s really up to them and you have to leave them behind if they won’t learn.
Describe an experience where you had to act as a leader (either planned or improvised):
I’ve usually taken charge of people new to the game. There were many times on the NA server where I’d gather a group of newer players to go farming or looking for PvP just to get them more comfortable with the game. Honestly, though, I haven’t been a leader much in my gaming life. I really enjoy being the leader’s right hand man, so to speak. I do my best to get shit done.
What sort of things define a good leader to you?:
A good leader has the knowledge of the game and how to apply it. Understanding the meta and surveying the field/status of the group at all times is required for being successful. It’s also very important to know your teammates strengths and weaknesses so that the leader may apply their mates’ talents in the most constructive situations. A leader has to also be invested in helping their followers grow and pushing them to become strong where they are weak.
Darkfall related (!)
What sort of role will you prefer in Darkfall?:
Either heavy or hybrid. I really enjoy the versatility of hybrids but I’m a bit rusty, so I was thinking of going heavy to start out.
How much time will you be able to play -Unholy Wars- Darkfall each day:
With commute, I’m busy at work from 8am-7pm Mon-Fri, Arizona Time. As I have no other commitments, I’ll be available 2-3 hours in the evening/night on weekdays and free as needed on Saturday/Sunday.
Did you play the original Darkfall? If so, for how long?:
I played from EU launch and then off and on until NA was shut down.
If you answered 'YES' above, use this section to talk about what you liked/disliked about Darkfall and any interesting experiences you had in it:
For me, the rush and excitement of the first few months were the best times of my life but that’s not to say the later days weren’t a blast! I disliked the character level gap between characters but didn't mind grinding my way up to be competitive.
The risk and excitement of the fights is something I’ve been searching for ever since it was shut down. I need this game in my life.
What is going to be your main gaming motivation while playing Darkfall?:
I want to become better at PvP and duels than I ever was. The sieges, politics and clans are where all the fun is and I’d love to experience it again.
Clan related (!)
Why did you apply to Covert Operations?:
I’ve heard many good things about CO from Whisper. She’s been with this group a while and had brought me along a few times back in Darkfall. I was really impressed with the group and feel now is the time to apply.
How will you be an asset to Covert Operations?:
I’m very loyal and will help anyone out when they ask. I don’t mind farming or crafting and will do my best to benefit the group any way I can, even if it’s just an additional sharp sword in a fight.
Do you have any friends in the clan? If so, list who they are and give a brief history with them.
Whisper. We’ve been friends for freaking forever. We started our gaming days back on Warcraft/Starcraft/Diablo and have been gaming ever since.
Previous clan(s) & the reason why you left:
I joined CotP shortly after launch and was with them for a little while after we transferred to NA. After that, I don’t quite remember the clans names but I was mostly with smaller clans. I tagged along with Whisper in her endevors but wasn’t at the level of PvP she was back then and couldn't join the big leagues. So, I joined up in either her clan’s noob clan or with a close ally.
How involved were you in your previous clans? (Leadership positions, politics, etc):
In the smaller clans, I was not in leadership but close friends with the leaders. I’d help out the noobs and guide them along. I would also arrange farming parties and lower level dueling. In the larger clans, I’d fall in rank and follow orders. I’d go out on hunting parties and attend any and all sieges I could.
