Greetings Covert Operations. Here is my application:
The real me:
IRL First Name:
Jacob
Age:
25
Country/Timezone:
New Zealand
The virtual me:
Usual In-game/Forum Alias:
Hailand Wellmet
How long have you been gaming?:
22 years (I was influenced by my brother playing Kings Quest haha)
What do you look for in a video game in order for you to play it? List at least one game which stands out for you and explain why it is superior to the others you have played:
Mainly, a game needs to be fun in order to play it. It needs to have difficulty and challenges but at the same time have moments of relaxation and peace. Another few things that are important to me is a strong sense of community and the allowance of player creativity and innovation.
Ultima Online was a game that I spent many of my teenage years playing and I hold close to me in my gaming memories. The thing about U.O is that it's evolution has been a crazy ride (I'm surprised the old horse is alive today), but my prime years were between 2001 - 2006.
It stood out from other games because the players needed to create their own fun, e.g go out looking for trouble, camping house spots, hunting dragons, roaming group pvp, crafting (In these ways, the game was similar to Darkfall). The PVP was interesting and at times volatile, and sadly the gaming engine quickly became outdated. However, even after several years of release I still managed to get a kick and adrenaline rush out of it. That is why I loved this game, because even after so many years, I still enjoyed it and nothing else really mattered.
Describe one of the greatest gaming moments of your life and why it stands out among others (Regarding multi player PC games):
In U.O I managed to beat the "Proclaimed best player on the server" 10 - 9 in a duel match. It was so close and I was somewhat of an under-dog but I managed to beat him. His name was "Avenger". He accused me of speed hacking and blamed his "lag" on him losing. I was just a kid at the time so this really made my day
Explain briefly your least favorite kind of person to play with (characteristics, personality):
A greedy and selfish person. Someone who doesn't ever share or offer advice or help to others.
Describe an experience where you had to act as a leader (either planned or improvised):
There was a time recently in Darkfall where I was hunting with a friend and I saw someone spying on us. So I said "hey theres a dude over there on that ridge, just play cool for a minute". I told my friend to head over in his direction while I went around the other side so we could sandwich him. The peeping tom attacked my friend according to plan and I ambushed him from behind on high ground. He died pretty quick.
Darkfall: Unholy Wars related (!)
Warrior, skirm, primalist or elementalist - Which will you prefer?:
Elementalist (after custom roles patch I have 3x mage pvp builds currently and one pve warrior/skirm build)
How much time will you be able to play Unholy Wars each day:
1-4 Hours during the week and 2-7 hours on the weekend
How much Prowess does your character currently have?
210K
What crafting skills, if any, have you spent time working on?
I have leatherworking mastery. I have various other crafting skills at 100 or close to. I would like to get alchemy mastery and am working on that currently.
Are you able to communicate in comms during a fight? (This is a big one)
Yes
Clan related (!)
Why did you apply to Covert Operations?:
Mainly, I would like to improve my teamwork skills and overall become a better pvper. I feel that I have my own perspectives and experiences to share and am willing to learn at the same time.
How will you be an asset to Covert Operations?:
I will be loyal, helpful and dedicated to Covert Operations. I have great listening skills and am able to follow orders from leaders correctly.
Do you have any friends in the clan? If so, list who they are and give a brief history with them.
Kalam Harsh. I learned a lot when it comes to pvp from Kal, he's cool and was always keen to help me out (even when we weren't in the same clan). We were in Zerg together a few months back and also last year I was in Empire when our clans allied and had some duels / group duels with you back then.
Previous clan(s) & the reason why you left:
Ancient Aliens (Guild leader and many others quit, eventually dissolved). Empire (Same as Ancient Aliens). Zerg (left with a couple of friends to join Bangsville). Bangsville (The clan also dissolved when a few core members randomly left a couple of months back). I joined Zerg again because my friend returned to the game and joined them, but we both have since left.
The only clan that I actually left on my own will was Zerg both times. They accept literally anyone and are mostly focused on helping and leveling up new players. I feel that in order to improve my skills and become a better overall player, I need to be part of a more focused and high achieving clan.
How involved were you in your previous clans? (Leadership positions, politics, etc):
I feel that I am a good provider of resources to clans. E.g: building mods, gold, repair shards etc.
I was high ranked in Ancient Aliens and was a great contributor of resources and advice. Back then my pvp skills were inept so I was basically a crafter / gatherer / pver those days.
I have not had any leadership or political roles since Ancient Aliens.
